Conference write-up
01
SuccessConnect ran from 5 to 7 October in Las Vegas, inside the wider SAP Connect event. It is the one conference in SAP's year built for HR buyers.
Day one produced nothing on SAP's news channels. Day two produced a product guide whose HR section held four items, none generally available, two of them US benefits tools, and no mention of payroll. Day three produced a sentence from the SuccessFactors product chief that assistants "for payroll, HR service, learning, recruiting, onboarding, and career and development" are "available this month".
02
Every commitment made with a stated date, and whether it landed. This is the part no vendor publishes about itself.
03
Each was published at the time, on its own date. This write-up adds the synthesis, not the facts.
05
On 6 October SAP agreed to buy TechWolf, a Belgian company that infers employees' skills from work data. SAP called it "an intelligent core of the SAP SuccessFactors portfolio" and argued that its data "makes token usage more efficient, lowers the cost of deploying workforce agents." No price was disclosed.
The awkward part is the shareholder list. TechWolf's 2024 funding round included SAP, ServiceNow and Workday, and Workday announced in January 2025 that it would run the product across its own workforce. SAP says the platform will stay open to non-SAP customers. Whether Workday keeps using a skills layer owned by its largest rival is the question the deal leaves open.
06
In May SAP planned general availability of thirteen HR assistants, the Payroll Assistant among them, for June 2026. The October product guide restates none of those dates and does not use the word payroll. The 7 October post says the assistants are "available this month" and never says "generally available".
SAP's own training material is more specific. Its page on the payroll agents says the Payroll Assistant "is currently part of an SAP Early Adopter Care (EAC) program and available only to customers participating in the program", and carries the same caution on the Payroll Alert Resolution Agent. That page read the same on 9 October, two days after the announcement.
A buyer should read "available this month" as available to customers in a programme until SAP says otherwise. Four months after the planned date, payroll is the one HR assistant with a written record of not being generally available.
07
SAP gave a number at last: "more than 20 Joule Assistants and over 200 Joule Agents", with "more than 400 agents by year-end". It covers every SAP product line. It does not say how many are generally available, how many are HR, or how many touch pay.
08
Nothing HR-related appeared on SAP's news channels between 8 and 11 October. On 12 October SAP published its release post for the second-half SuccessFactors release. It names the Payroll Assistant and shows a "payroll readiness check" screen, and it gives the timing as "throughout the remainder of the year". Five days earlier the same assistants were "available this month". No release named a country, a price or an availability class for the payroll assistant, and neither Workday nor ServiceNow said anything in public about TechWolf.
09
Eleven with a stated date. One landed on the day, and it is a supplier-payments product. The two due this month, assistant availability and the Joule Work rollout, are the ones to test on 1 November. The rest fall due at the end of December, with the US benefits decision tool in March 2027.
10
Nothing further from SAP on SuccessFactors in the last two days of the window. SAP's 13 October posts on industry AI and its private-cloud ERP release do not mention HR, payroll or SuccessFactors. The two October commitments are tested on 1 November.
About this page. Announcements are recorded in the vendor's own words on the day they are made, and each commitment is re-checked against what actually arrives. Where a date was promised, this page will say whether it was met.
