Competitor Profile
Where this is heading
Dayforce runs on Thoma Bravo capital now, taken private at $12.3B on 4 February 2026 at $70.00 per share and delisted from the NYSE and TSX. That changes how this competitor is tracked as much as how it behaves: there are no quarterly earnings calls and no SEC filings to read, so the 2024 full-year figures are the last complete public disclosure and hiring signal becomes the primary observable.
The read: the AI surface is credible and the distribution choice is the story. Co-Pilot and AI Agents are shipped, AI Workspace is rolling out, but the MCP route runs entirely through Microsoft Copilot Studio rather than a self-hosted Dayforce endpoint. Dayforce is renting its agent distribution from Microsoft. That is a defensible commercial choice and a real strategic dependency, and it is a different bet from the vendors standing up their own servers.
The precise UK gap is narrower and sharper than the usual framing. Dayforce natively submits CIS deductions through EPS but does not calculate them: per its own implementation guide the customer works out the deduction and enters it manually. So neither "full CIS support" nor "no CIS support" is accurate. A competitor that automates the calculation, not just the filing, has a concrete and sourceable edge on construction payroll, and that is the claim to make rather than a blanket one.
Native payroll runs on Dayforce's own engine in four countries, the US, Canada, UK and Australia. The 200-plus further countries are an in-country partner network, which is a materially different proposition from a single owned engine.

How the product hangs together, at the level a product leader needs to place it.
Dayforce is built as a single application on a single data model spanning HR, Pay (payroll), Dayforce Time (workforce management, scheduling, time and attendance), Talent (recruiting, onboarding, performance, succession, compensation), Learning, Analytics and reporting, and Benefits administration. The single-data-model architecture, one employee record underlying every module, is Dayforce's central product argument against competitors built from stitched-together acquisitions, and it traces back to the original Dayforce Corporation product that Ceridian acquired in 2012 and eventually rebranded the whole company around, formally dropping the Ceridian name for Dayforce Inc. in February 2024.
Workforce management is Dayforce's historical center of gravity: scheduling, time and attendance, and labor forecasting built for large, shift-based, deskless workforces in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and hospitality, where compliance-heavy scheduling rules and real-time labor cost visibility matter more than they do for knowledge-worker-only employers.
Dayforce Wallet extends the core platform with earned-wage access: employees can draw down wages they have already earned but have not yet been paid, delivered in part through a Dayforce-branded prepaid card, aimed at retaining hourly and shift-based staff who value pay flexibility.
Powerpay is a separate, Canada-only product line for smaller businesses that do not need the full Dayforce HCM suite, kept as a distinct brand rather than merged into core Dayforce, reflecting a deliberate segmentation between Dayforce's enterprise core and a lighter Canadian SMB offering.
Dayforce's partner ecosystem extends the core suite with named, embedded integrations rather than leaving customers to stitch in point tools themselves: Emburse for expense management and Docusign for digital agreements both plug directly into HR and finance workflows inside the platform, alongside implementation and technology alliances covered below.
Dayforce's AI layer sits across the whole suite: Dayforce Co-Pilot is the conversational interface, Dayforce AI Agents (announced November 2024) automate specific tasks inside that interface across HR, Pay, Time, Talent, and Analytics, and Dayforce AI Workspace (announced October 2025, rolling out to new customers in 2026) is a proactive, multi-modal (voice, text, click) collaboration layer built on the same single data model, rather than a bolted-on chatbot pointed at disconnected systems. The footprint outside North America is inorganic. Excelity supplied a Southeast Asian payroll beachhead in 2020 and Ascender added thirty Asia Pacific countries in 2021, so regional coverage that reads as native is acquired.
03
Geographic footprint, and where payroll is native rather than partner-delivered.
In the UK, Dayforce runs payroll natively. Dayforce's own implementation documentation describes direct FPS (Full Payment Submission) and EPS (Employer Payment Summary) filing to HMRC as standard payroll processing, meaning RTI reporting runs on Dayforce's own engine rather than through a third-party bureau. Construction Industry Scheme support is real but partial: Dayforce's implementation guide states that CIS deductions can be entered and submitted to HMRC through the EPS filing, but the CIS deduction calculation itself is not automated inside Dayforce payroll and has to be worked out and entered by the customer. That is a meaningfully different claim from either full native CIS support or no CIS support at all, and it is worth stating precisely rather than rounding to either extreme.
In North America, Dayforce runs its deepest native coverage: US federal, state, and local tax compliance, and Canadian federal and provincial payroll, reflecting the company's origin as a Canadian workforce management vendor (Ceridian) built up around the Dayforce product. Powerpay serves Canadian small businesses as a separate, lighter product line alongside core Dayforce.
Across the EU and the wider EMEA region, and in South Africa, Dayforce's payroll is partner-delivered rather than native. Dayforce's own native processing is limited to the US, Canada, UK, and Australia; every other jurisdiction in its stated 200+ country and territory reach runs through in-country payroll partners, with Dayforce transmitting payroll inputs to the partner's local engine and receiving statutory filings and payslips back. Mercans is one documented integration partner in this network, and its own materials describe automatically transferring payroll inputs from Dayforce into Mercans' processing systems and returning payslips and statutory reports rather than Dayforce calculating and filing locally itself.
South Africa specifically follows the same partner-delivered pattern: no evidence surfaced of Dayforce running SARS registration, PAYE, UIF, or SDL calculation and filing natively; where Dayforce customers run South African payroll, it flows through the same in-country partner network as the rest of non-native EMEA and Africa coverage. In September 2026 Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for Workforce Management Technology and named Dayforce a Leader, positioned highest for Ability to Execute, alongside Workday and UKG. Dayforce sells its workforce management standalone or inside the HCM suite with payroll, so the first analyst category for scheduling and time is led by vendors that also run the pay calculation.
04
Dayforce sells to large and enterprise employers, particularly those running complex, multi-jurisdiction, high-compliance, shift-based workforces in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, and financial services, with a pitch built around replacing a stitched stack of separate HR, payroll, and workforce management point systems with one application on one employee record. It competes at the large-enterprise end of the market against Workday, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, and ADP, and its own user base and marketing skew clearly toward organizations with roughly 500 or more employees rather than SMB or lower mid-market buyers. Enterprise delivery leans on a named system-integrator network, Deloitte, CGI, Align HCM, and HCLTech provide implementation support, alongside technology alliances with Microsoft, Docusign, Emburse, and Go1 for learning content, reinforcing the platform pitch with a partner layer for deployment and content rather than Dayforce building every adjacent capability itself.
Dayforce does not publish per-employee-per-month pricing; quotes are custom, built from employee count, module selection, geographic complexity, and typically multi-year contract terms with annual price escalators. Independent buyer-side estimates commonly cited by pricing-comparison sites put blended PEPM costs across core HCM, payroll, and workforce modules in a range roughly from the low twenties to mid forties in US dollars depending on module depth, but these figures come from third-party analysis rather than a vendor-published rate card and should be read as indicative market commentary, not confirmed Dayforce pricing.
Dayforce Co-Pilot, AI Agents, and the newly announced AI Workspace are marketed as native platform capabilities rather than a separately metered SKU in any public source found in this research; no credits-based or per-agent surcharge pricing has been disclosed.
As a privately held company since the February 2026 Thoma Bravo close, Dayforce is not subject to SEC quarterly reporting requirements, so the most current publicly available customer and revenue figures are its final public disclosures, full-year 2024 results plus quarterly filings through Q3 2025. CEO David Ossip has framed the take-private deal as positioning Dayforce to scale, deepen customer value, and accelerate AI-driven innovation with Thoma Bravo's backing.
05
What has shipped: Dayforce Co-Pilot, a conversational AI interface embedded across HR, Pay, Time, Talent, and Analytics; and Dayforce AI Agents, task-automating agents operating inside that same conversational surface, announced at Dayforce Discover in November 2024 to help automate day-to-day HR, pay, and workforce tasks. At Discover 2025, Dayforce extended the same AI Agents line with anomaly detection tuned specifically to payroll, tax, and compliance errors, spanning Pay, Time, People Analytics, and Content Authoring. Dayforce also holds ISO 42001 certification and a NIST AI RMF attestation for trustworthy AI governance, credentials the company states make it the first HCM vendor to hold both together.
What is newly announced and rolling out: Dayforce AI Workspace, announced October 2025 at Dayforce Discover, described as a collaboration environment where AI operates with full platform context because it runs on Dayforce's single data model, supporting voice, text, and click interaction and proactively surfacing insights rather than waiting for a query. Dayforce states availability begins with new customers in 2026, meaning it is an early-rollout capability for new implementations rather than a feature already broadly live across the existing customer base.
On interoperability, Dayforce's own MCP story runs through Microsoft rather than as an independently branded, self-hosted Dayforce MCP server. The October 2025 expanded Microsoft collaboration lets agents built in Microsoft Copilot Studio reach Dayforce APIs and data through MCP, which Dayforce describes as allowing custom agents to securely access workforce information, from employee details to payroll insights, inside Microsoft Teams and Power BI surfaces; the underlying press materials do not specify whether this access is read-only or read-write. Separately, and not to be conflated with Dayforce's own integration, third-party connector vendors (StackOne, Zapier) list unofficial wrapper MCP servers exposing dozens of Dayforce actions to general-purpose AI agents; these are third-party products built against Dayforce's APIs, not first-party Dayforce MCP servers.
On model-provider mix, Dayforce's AI and agent stack is built end-to-end on Microsoft technology, Azure, Power BI, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Teams, and .NET, with Copilot Studio as the agent-authoring layer; no named Anthropic or OpenAI partnership appears anywhere in Dayforce's own AI Agents or AI Workspace announcements. Dayforce's posture reads as in-product copilot-chatbot (Co-Pilot) moving toward agentic (AI Agents, AI Workspace), delivered through a Microsoft-routed MCP integration rather than a vendor-neutral, first-party MCP server Dayforce controls end-to-end.
06
Diagnosis and the play together. Each is a live attack vector, not a general weakness.
The precise, falsifiable gap in UK payroll is CIS deduction calculation. Dayforce's own implementation guide states that CIS deductions are entered and submitted through EPS but are not calculated inside Dayforce payroll, the customer has to work out the deduction and enter it. A UK-focused competitor that automates the CIS calculation itself, not just the filing, has a concrete, sourceable capability edge for construction and trades-heavy UK enterprise deals that Dayforce's own documentation cannot currently counter.
Native payroll geography is a second lever, and it applies at scale because Dayforce sells almost exclusively to large, multi-jurisdiction employers who are most likely to feel the gap: native processing covers only four countries (US, Canada, UK, Australia), and Dayforce's headline 200-plus-country reach runs through in-country partners for everything else, including EU heartland markets and South Africa. Against Dayforce's own core pitch, one application, one data model, a vendor with a genuinely broader native footprint can argue the single-data-model promise breaks exactly at the border of those four countries.
Implementation complexity and cost are recurring, sourced complaints in G2 reviews: a steep learning curve for administrators, multi-month implementation timelines, an outdated interface, and pricing that becomes a poor fit under roughly 500 employees. Recruiting and talent-sourcing AI capability is also called out as a specific weak spot relative to the rest of the suite. A challenger selling faster time-to-value, a modern interface, or stronger AI-driven recruiting has concrete, current ammunition against Dayforce's own admitted enterprise-only sweet spot.
Ownership transition is a live, current-state opening. The Thoma Bravo take-private close in February 2026 ends Dayforce's public quarterly disclosure cadence at the same moment competitors can point to a well-known pattern after private-equity software buyouts, tighter cost discipline, pricing changes, or slower roadmap communication, as grounds for prospects to press Dayforce account teams for explicit multi-year roadmap and pricing-escalator commitments in writing before signing long contracts. Hiring data gives that pattern a concrete, dated data point rather than leaving it hypothetical: a July 2026 careers-page recheck put open roles at roughly 155, down about 17% from two months earlier, while AI- and ML-titled roles grew roughly fourteenfold over the same window. Headcount contracting while AI hiring concentrates is exactly the post-buyout profile competitors can point to, now sourced rather than asserted.
Dayforce's flagship AI interoperability path runs through a single third party's agent-authoring layer, Microsoft Copilot Studio, rather than a vendor-neutral MCP server Dayforce operates itself. A buyer already standardized on Anthropic Claude or OpenAI ChatGPT for enterprise AI gets a materially thinner, and per available sources currently only third-party-wrapper-based, integration path into Dayforce than a buyer already inside the Microsoft ecosystem, a genuine switching-cost argument for non-Microsoft-shop competitors to raise directly.

Open roles are a leading indicator, and the composition matters more than the count. Read against the strategic call at the top of this profile.
, +7, +4.5%. Grew this week (no page-1 AI title in sample) , cuts against the prior cycle's "Dayforce contracting" read
What it says about strategy. This cuts against the expected read and that is worth stating plainly. Thoma Bravo ownership led us to expect cost discipline and contraction, and hiring grew 4.5% instead. Either the PE playbook here is growth rather than margin extraction, or the cuts have not started. The prior cycle's Dayforce-is-contracting read does not survive this data point.
